Most companies, nowadays, have become more aware of how they impact society and the environment, as well as how tremendous their influence is in the world around them. That’s why most companies have Corporate Social Responsibility activities that help advocate their choice of segment in the society.
A recent CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activity I joined with the company I work with here at KL was a charity event tied with Kechara Soup Kitchen.
Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) is a registered NGO with an objective of providing food for the homeless on the streets and the urban poor. In their building, they feed people who drop by without asking any question or any type of identification. They just give them packed food and water in good will. With a well-maintained building, people eat and clean as they go.
For the outreach activity, we packed grocery items from Kechara that were to be distributed to different poor families registered under their Welfare bureau. There were different kinds of cookies and biscuits, noodles, salt, cooking oil, rice and other cooking essentials.
Surprisingly, the poor families we went to are incomparable to how it is in Manila. I'd say these families' conditions are not that far from how our family lived growing up as we also did not have much. It’s saddening that we really have the poorest of the poor back home.
However, of course, no matter what the circumstances are it’s still a great feeling to be of help to less fortunate people in any way we can. It is a small way of paying it forward.
Activities like this make me realize how blessed our family is. It makes me become more grateful for everything I had growing up and everything we have now realizing how far we have come.
